June 14, 2016
Heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and other chronic diseases are often thought to be public health issues only for high income countries, but in reality 82% of chronic, or noncommunicable, disease deaths occur in low and middle income countries. An increasing number of countries are facing a "double burden of disease" as their health systems are adapt to rapid epidemiological transitions. On this show, you'll hear Dr. John Nkurikiye of the Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology and Crispin Gishoma of the Rwanda Diabetes Association in conversation with Chevy Lazenby on the topic of chronic diseases in the Majority World.
