In this episode we will hear from the One More Drink: the Societal and Health Costs of Alcohol event, which was a presentation held at McGill University on March 15. The event looked at prevalence data and healthcare costs of alcohol consumption, factors affecting consumption and related harms, and positive societal actions and public health interventions.
The first clip features Professor Sylvia Kairouz, Director of the Lifestyle and Addiction Research Lab. Listen to hear why alcohol is a public health problem and proposed solutions from a public health perspective.
The second clip presents Dr. Louise Nadeau, Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Montreal and Associate Researcher at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. Dr. Nadeau elaborates on alcohol pathology, emphasizes the neurological (and NOT moral) basis of problematic drinking, and presents tools for clinician to address pathological drinking.
