On today�s segment of Health on Earth, we will be presenting two difference perspectives on science and health, as well as discussing some of the possible ramifications of sensationalization of health in media, and of �overmedicalization� within our current society. With the rapid advent of modern technology, and increasing sensitivity of modern diagnosis devices, we are now able to diagnose risks to certain conditions with increasing sensitivity. However, are we doing more harm than good, worrying about what Dr. Ivan Oransky, executive editor of Reuters, calls �pre-conditions�? In what situations does over treatment, and overreliance on modern medicine lead to more harm than good?This show features Dr. Joe Schwartz, the current Director of McGill University�s �Office for Science and Society,� which promotes critical thinking and the dissemination of scientific information to the public. Adrian Lou, a Master's student at University of British Columbia specializing in English language, cognitive linguistics and rhetorical theory, will be discussing the power of rhetoric in altering our understanding of science, health and technology.
